I was looking through some old photos of a family reunion we had way back in 2004. For this reunion we traveled to Puerto Rico where my parents are from to be with our many cousins and aunts and uncles. There was so much great food, music and fellowship the entire weekend. What a great time!
As I looked through the photos, I was reminded of the love and care that came from the family elders. I was struck by how much love (and work) was put into making the food – All THE FOOD!!! I’m guessing we had over 100 people celebrating with us so the kitchen was busy. I stole a picture of my mom and my aunt (my dad’s sister) working together. I say “stole” because if my mom knew I was taking a picture, she would have thrown a shoe at me.
Watching the two work, I was reminded of how much love and care was shown to me by the women in my life. I’ll never forget that weekend. I’ll never forget them, or all the other woman who have given me so much. I decided to do this painting to honor them and all the ladies who work so hard to take care of their families, both inside and outside the home. I hope I did them justice.
